While most people have turned to madness, some strange women also took part in the whole situation. These are referred to as Maidens by the people of Orchestria.
It's important to understand that there is currently no known way to stop maidens or voices permanently, as even if one is defeated, after some time, reports of the same maiden being seen somewhere else come to light.
Maidens are strange women that appear throughout populated areas. Nobody knows whether they were once human or are monstrous entities donning mortal guise. They look like gorgeous women with perfect looks, too perfect, something that clearly is not natural.
Maidens are drawn to strong feelings, particularly those tinged with contradiction: hope poisoned by doubt, love twisted by guilt, trust that was betrayed. The key part of interacting with a Maiden is that they will lie to the person, and it doesn't matter what the lie is, or how obvious that seems...
...Every interaction with a Maiden feeds her. Not physically, but emotionally. With enough exposure to a victim’s feelings, the Ritual happens.
Maidens do not bring destruction directly. Instead, they bring Voices.
Voices are born from distorted emotions. They don't spawn visibly from the Maidens, but their arrival always coincides with a Maiden's prolonged presence and influence.
Oswald theorized that the Voice is the truth hidden beneath the Maiden’s lies, forced into reality by emotional distortion. When a Maiden lies, and her target believes it, willingly or not, that belief fractures reality and brings the Voices closer.
Voices are not mere monsters. They are incarnations of emotional extremes. They don't need a single individual to be target, but this makes it easier if a person is naive enough to be tricked for long.
Maidens are the instanced Bosses of Luna Obscura. They are difficult fights that come in two variations:
Dreaming Maiden: This fight is fought solo and always matches the current level of the location they happen in. They are challenges to be conquered by each individual player. Nightmare Maiden: This fight is a stronger and more decisive version for full parties of 6 players. They require proper planning and coordination by everyone in order to succeed.
Defeating a Dreaming Maiden always rewards with its card as well as a Legendary Item that is linked to her. Nightmare Maidens provide special rewards in the way of unique cosmetics, unique special cards and other items.
Finding a maiden is a task in itself, as they can change appearances under specific conditions. Some basic information can be followed for more success.
They have been met by hunters in the past and remembering their appearance is essential to not fall on their traps and tricks. While not all of them are public knowledge, any information is welcome.
